This movie is truly what is called entertainment! Its funny, romantic, a thriller with flashes of reality and lots of fantasy. On the whole I reccomend it highly and will be buying the DVD as well to show all my friends. :)

Overall good movie. A nice balance of comedy, action and history. Adjani was good in her only comedic role that I can remember her. So good, in fact, I wanted to kill her. The plot was good as well, and it was interesting to see a part of the Second world war that we are not usually exposed to as well, the mass exodus, the divided opinions on capitulation or resistance, the cute historical allusions throughout the film:De Gaulle in the car, the resistance, etc. Entertaining.

A so so film for Rappeneau who has done a lot better... Depardieu and Adjani not too good either, although she is so beautiful she may be forgiven her pouting (the role did demand it) and idiotic, almost farcical stares. One excellent feature : the totally original reconstitution of the exodus, masses fleeing Paris to go south (I was in one of those stalled cars but do not remember since I was only 5 and have had to rely on my parents' stories to visualize it,... until now) and the histrionics of leaders spouting the usual slogans about eternal France. The story is silly and some of the period pieces may be anachronistic (the telephone was far from ubiquitous in provincial France in 1940, I think) and the Heavy Water smuggling rather unbelievable.
