This was a well done film which I thought it would more than one award as the one who played precious certainly had acted extremely well for the part and glad at least the one who played the mother who had been an alcoholic won. She sure was also exceptionally good and sure this one who made this film had seen this kind of performance and added his own way to make this film good to see. As this film gives a lesson how a girl feels living with a mother who was having hate for their child and not giving the girl a chance to live in a proper manner can be happening which I am sure others agree with me. It has a story that tends to happen regularly and it gives a lesson and ways how a girl can cope and manage without family interfering.

Seriously? This movie was professionally nominated? For... ? Oh, because Obama is President and Oprah endorsed it... right. Now, it's easy to understand that you would think I'm racist, except that I'm black and grew up in a poor family in a very bad neighbourhood. The bottom line is that this movie is not a movie at all, it's fragmented moments of someone's alleged life experiences. The story fails at every moment and requires an obnoxious amount of voice over. The continuity is non-existent. The directing is laughable and the metaphors are way too On The Nose to even refer to them as metaphors. If it weren't for some decent acting by Gabourey Sidibe and Mariah Carey I would have given this a 2/10. And some might suggest that Paula Patton was excellent in this - eh. I disagree. It's just that the supporting acting around her is so bad that she seems better than she is - quite frankly, I found her overbearing. But it doesn't matter who's in the film, the story simply is tired and meandering. Does this crap happen to people? I know it does. Does this film help any of that? I doubt it, so really it's just a bad film with a pointless existence, pushed by a political agenda. 5 Spirit Awards? Maybe the judges had too many "spirits" before their awarding. Seriously.

Dope. Ya'll need to check it out. The actors and supporting casts did an amazing job. It's credible and the producer definitely should be a runner up for an Oscar nomination. Really deep and emotional scenes. Two thumbs up!

This is the type of movie that really makes you appreciate your own life and realize all that we take for granted. The acting was excellent. I didn't love the way they filmed the sort of dream scenes but I liked the movie overall.

This movie is not for the faint of heart, but if you can handle seeing the pain this girl lives with, the story may change the way you look at teenage pregnancy, illiteracy, and possibly obesity. Absolutely worth seeing. And the acting is outstanding in the sense that you don't notice it, you just get into the story.

Although this is a powerful movie, I agree with some of the other comments such as the story is a little disturbing and the actor that portrayed precious was hard to understand. She mumbled through most of the film. On the other hand MoNique was excellent. She does deserve the oscar nomination for her work in this film. This is not a feel good movie. If you liked the Wrestler movie, you will probably like this one.

Both my husband and myself thought the movie was incredible - well deserving of academy awards for both mother and daughter - Something everyone should see to realize how much suffering there is in the world - this isn't as rare of an occurrence as you might think!!

Great movie, but also disturbing. Her up brining was horrible, to think that she was raised to believe that she was no good for nothing and really it was here parents that should have been locked up forever. Her father got his in the end but that wasn't even good enough. Her mother I hope is locked up. I'm sure this goes on happening, but it does and shouldn't. I hope all the best to this women and her children.

I loved this movie... It gives enlightenment to some lives out there. The part I really enjoyed about it was the fact that it wasn't sugar-coated. Everything was real, nothing was left out. I do however feel the end was a little cut-short, like something was missing. Other than that, it's a great movie. I wouldn't recommend watching it with little kids around though, this is strictly a mature movie.

I was happy I saw it, just to enjoy the acting. The mother, the daughter and the teacher steal the show. If Mo'nique doesn't win the Oscar, then the awards are fixed. How this funny woman can act in such a way that you can't stand her, but still feel a little sorry for her at the same time, is amazing.

Not easy subject matter. Beautifully filmed. See it for the acting alone. Mo'Nique and Gabby are unforgettable. It, definitely has flaws, and parts of it are hard to follow --especially in the alternative school, but it is a movie that you will never forget.

Although not strong enough to make my top ten for the year, this was an awesome movie. I was super worried cuz I was told it wasn't unlifting at all and was just overly depressing but I didn't find that to be true. I was strongly uplifted but yeah, there are many scenes that are tough to watch. Not a choice movie to watch with your mom. The performances are amazing though. Precious herself is incredible but her mom is SUCH a strong actress. Her scenes terrified me and moved me to tears at the same time. I hear that Mariah Carey and Lenny Kravitz were in the movie, but I SWEAR I don't know who they were in the movie (and I know who they are in real life) So if that is worrying you, don't let it. Anyway, I totally loved it. Recommended for sure, yo.

What a bad film. I was not impressed even though Harpo/Oprah Winfrey gives it her approval. The film is not well crafted and is not entertaining or enlightening at all. Ask any social worker worth her/his salt.

I did not love this movie. It is very over hyped. If Monique wasn't in this movie I would give it a 3. She brought life into this film. I honestly had a hard time understanding Precious when she spoke. I understand she was playing her role but her acting couch needed to tell her to open her mouth when she spoke! The story was intense and I did find myself going through many emotions but Monique was the reason for it. I have a feeling the book would be so much more intense and I truly did not enjoy all the fairy tail parts! I say it's rent worthy.

Love it! Raw to the core, extremely well done acting. Much better than I thought, I resisted this movie because I thought it would be typical... far from it! If you are in your own "perfect world" or "bubble", you will now understand alot of what kids go through in impoverished areas. The education system is sub-standard, anger and hate run deep, and there are no real activities and helping hands for the youth so they get abused and fall victim to evil issues and people. This movie is no joke... with jokes in it! Very entertaining. If you have an ego and a "nose in the air attitude" walking in, you will hate this movie. It is a perfect time of only about 90 minutes. I wanted to see it again the next day. Brilliant!

Outstanding. We need to see this to keep helping and empathizing with all the "Precious" teens out there. If we close our eyes to the reality we ignore it and by ignoring we accept it. I am sure living a life like Precious endured is not uncommon and could be even worse than the film portrayed.

I felt a lot of different emotions during this movie. Mostly I felt anger at the mother, she was an animal. Unfortunately there are situations like this in the world and it's just great to see the victims break away. I saw it two nights ago and I can't stop thinking about it. I have not read the book but if any of you have was the mother making her eat so that she could be obese?

I really thought of it as a great well made movie. The acting was on spot. Really tight. Lenny Kravitz and Mariah Carey make well-cast appearances as well. However, the real stars of the film are undoubtedly Mo'Nique and Gabourey. I mean these two women were incredibly well suited for the part. I give hats off to the casting crew. Sad story that manages to be presented with touches of humor and a dash of hope, enough to let you know that "precious" will end up just fine. And that's the point of the movie isn't it. To overcome the odds and fight for your dreams out of self love and self respect. Good Job.

The hard knock life in Harlem comes to the big screen, and some people, especially the privileged, can't handle the scenes of abuse and they walk out."Precious" is gritty and downright intense; but at the same time, is laced with humour (which the audience in my theatre didn't quite get) and moments of joyous escapism. Mo'Nique's commanding performance deserves recognition! In retrospect, it is ironic that the film title and character's name is "Precious", when truly Precious was everything but dear to the people around her. The end is underscored by a great epiphany, completely internalized by the protagonist and delivered to the audience through a short but empowered dialogue and the intimate figures of family members walking through a crowd of strangers.

It was alright, but it certainly wasn't worth all the hype. They say that anyone that has ever experienced abuse shouldn't see it as it might be triggering? I disagree totally; I think the movie is best suited for those that have. It is empowering in its own right as she overcomes, and moves beyond. To others that haven't been thru alot, I don't think it would mean as much to them... the hypersexualization wasn't necessary to make the movie work; I guess they were trying for shock value but it actually lost its' effect by overuse.

This movie (and the book which I subsequently read) really changed my opinion on the African American experience. The author, an inner city social worker of some sort, distills the stories of many young people, at least some of whom were black, in to the singular character "Precious" Jones, taking all of their tragedies and failings and compiling them in to one truncheon, with which she beats the audience repeatedly over the course of two hours, leaving us feeling much like Rodney King probably did, minus the PCP. Slavery certainly did American born blacks a tremendous disservice in terms of their gene pool, but I had no idea they were still practicing selective inbreeding through incest, until I saw this movie. Certainly the author would not have made this a center point of the story unless it was a widespread problem. In this context, the illiteracy, violence, crime, sexual abuse, incest, and other issues in the black community become understandable. The author's poignant reminder that the president of the US is an African/Indonesian bred black, and therefore does not have these genetic disadvantages, certainly reminds us of the shameful facts of eighteenth and nineteenth century US history. I hope the author pens a sequel of some sort, offering potential solutions to the problems they've dramatized so blatantly, as it's obvious the fifty years of affirmative action and welfare have done nothing to improve the plight of this legacy of slavery.

Certainly not an 'uplifting' movie to see over the holidays. Hard to watch at times, and certainly not for kids (I did see people come in with kids and then leave) Good acting though, but I agree that the main character's mumbling was kind of hard to follow at times. I think Oscar worthy for the acting - but not particularly for the movie itself (but it probably will be nominated) I would be interested to read the book, because there are really no spoilers.
